The New Zealand Primary Healthcare Awards | He Tohu Mauri Ora 2021
Entries extended to 10pm Sunday 17 January 2021
The New Zealand Primary Healthcare Awards reward excellence in primary healthcare over the previous two years. The inaugural awards focused on equity, and it was exciting to see the projects and people working towards better health and wellbeing for Māori and high-needs populations. In this years award, we want to see initiatives that are building on this work – how are your wonderful developments in primary care being improved upon and shared, despite the recent setbacks and turbulent political landscape?
We are looking for individuals and teams that are using smart ways to advance their understanding of what patients want and need in the planning and delivery of their services. What initiatives are filling gaps and producing excellent results?
Be it earlier intervention, genuine codesign, telehealth, novel ways to achieve shared decision-making and self-management, or wider coordination between providers and the community ‒ we want to hear about it all! Delivering equity in outcomes requires a dogged determination. We know primary care has what it takes, now share the knowledge.

The inaugural New Zealand Primary Healthcare Awards were a great success for 2019/2020. They acted as an extension and replacement of the successful 28-year-old Pharmacy Awards. In 2020/2021 we continue to build on this legacy with a space that champions the primary healthcare sector and all that it achieves.
You can help us do this! With 22 awards categories, there is sure to be an opportunity relevant to you or your team or someone you know and respect. Check out our tips & tricks on how to create a strong entry!
Supporting the primary care sector
A strong primary care sector is crucial to a successful New Zealand health system, providing great care for patients and a great work environment.
The Health Media and the Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand believe the awards will encourage collaboration and innovation in primary care, and allow the healthcare sector and the public to see how hard primary care practitioners work to improve the health and wellbeing of all New Zealanders and keep them out of the secondary care (hospital) system.
The collective aim is to improve access, health and wellbeing outcomes for Māori and non-Māori alike, and the awards celebrate the work that is already happening to encourage further collaboration.
